Rutland Fast Rams
Fastest Growing Rams
Fastest Growing Rams
Our farm was founded in 1971 by Percy Gilman. We started with just xx acres of land at Tixover and have expanded to 3500 acres covering ground from Tixover to Glaston in beautiful Rutland. Over the years, we've grown to over 3500 acres of arable and we run 4300 breeding ewes in our commerical flock and 200 pedigree Sufftexs. We're proud to have been serving the local community for over 55 years.
At RUTLAND FAST RAMS, our mission is to provide our customers with rams who produce easy lambing, fast finishing lambs with a quality carcass. All data recorded, producing only the hight estimated breeding value rams.
Our team at RUTLAND FAST RAMS is made up of dedicated shepherds who are passionate about what they do. We work hard every day to ensure that our animals are well-cared for and that our crops are healthy and abundant. We're proud to be a part of the local farming community and we're always happy to share our knowledge and experience with others.
As we close the door on lambing 2025 we are busy rearing the next set of Rutland Fast Rams. We are pleased to see once again consistency from our ewes; good strong lambs, even pairs who are growing well.
With lamb prices at a high last year and set to continue this year now must be the time to buy rams with the highest possible genetic potential to put weight on very quickly. More lambs will be sold earlier at the higher prices.
For our breeding flock all our replacement sheep are at least in the top 1% and we only buy in the very highest performance rams available to keep improving their performance.
We only sell rams in the top 1% of genetic merit so you can be assured of the very best performance.
We have topped the Signet performances for several years on the Suffolk evaluation for:-
Top Ram Lamb
Top Shearling Ram
Top Stock Ram
These performance figures are all based on accurately recorded data; which takes into account all of the factors involved in getting the highest value for a carcase as early as possible. This data is compared with all the flocks across the country to give an accurate evaluation across all flocks. Scan Weight is based at about 40Kg and is the main driver of the Indexes which is the time it takes to get a lamb to slaughter weight. It is the absolute crucial factor in getting lambs away at the highest prices.Coupled with their hybrid vigour our rams will last longer and not lose condition over the tupping season. We also have some pure Registered Suffolk Shearling Rams for sale..
We will be taking bookings from people who are interested in buying our very high Index rams direct from our farm. You will be able to view from July onwards giving you plenty of time to make your choices.
Anyone who buys a ram will retain their priority for future years. We will have again some pure Registered Suffolk Shearling Rams for Sale next year and our tag line will be altered to reflect this.
Over the last 5 years we have seen a rise in our Indexes of 25 a year. The graph to the left shows this Trend in our Genetic Gain compared with the average Suffolk Genetic Gain.
